Thien Cung Grotto
Thien Cung Grotto is located to the north of Dau Go Island, near Dau Go Grotto, 4km south of Cai Dam Tourist Wharf.
The Grotto’s mouth is 25m above the sea level. Its 10,000m2 floor area is divided into many layers and compartments, with high ceiling and walls. Going inside, one can immediately see a large number of stalagmites. Their strange shapes lead fanciful people to weave legends about the love story between the Dragon Parents. Others compare the cave with a labyrinth built by the Persian emperors in the famous Arabian Nights
A small entrance, facing a narrow bay surrounded by a mountain arc, opens into the inner compartment of the grotto. Engraved in the cave wall is a Roman name and the number 1901, possibly the autograph of the last explorer before the grottoes more recent discovery. Nowadays, a network of corridors, stairways and colorful lights has been installed inside and outside the grotto, the first large-scale project in a grotto in Halong. On the 1st May 1998, Thien Cung Grotto was officially opened for tourists, attracting many of visitors to Halong. In the near future, the grotto will receive further attention to preserve its natural beauty.
