Me Cung Grotto

Me Cung (Labyrinth) grotto lies on an island about 2km away from the grottoes of Sung Sot and Bo Nau Grotto. Its complex entrance, 20 - 25m above the sea level, is composed of man chambers and ravines linked through narrow passages. Just outside the grotto’s mouth is a flat space: the jutting-out ceiling makes it look like a meeting hall. The inner chambers and tortuous passages, about 100m long, give an impression of a large underground villa. Long ago, prehistoric humans settled in Me Cung and left a 2 – 3 km thick layer of snail shells of which the ends were broken off just inside the entrance. The grotto’s exit leads to a closed lake next to the so called royal garden of stunted century-old trees.
